Later on if you decide you want to go more, have a look at some lower gears, a high stall converter and that big cam you are wanting.ĭon't do like I once did, go for that big lopey cam without all the necessities. These would make a tremendous improvement over the 140 or so HP you are seeing from stock. Next I would scrap the ignition system and go with a decent distributor, coil and ignition box. If it were me, I would seriously consider the Comp Cams 252H part # 31-215-2 or the 260H part #31-216-2, a good set of headers, dual plane intake & a decent carb. You would end up needing a stall converter, gears, headers and a decent intake. A lopey cam might not start building power until you are in the upper 2,000 to lower 3,000 range. Choosing a cam with a big lope, your going to sacrifice low end power.
